Health Tourism – Should Foreign Patients pay towards NHS – Vanessa Feltz’s talk show
“Doctors have voted to scrap a law requiring foreign patients to pay upfront before they can receive treatment for serious illnesses such as cancer.”
I did call Vanessa today about The Health Surcharge, introduced in 2015. The fee payable by foreign nationals wanting to work or settle in the UK was £100 per each year. This fee increased to £400 per year on the 7 January 2019. Spouse Visa holders are expected to pay around £1,000 for the first 2.5 years.
The BBC Radio debate highlighted concerns from callers into the debate. The NHS Service Providers do not monitor patient’s residence documents and have been supplying NHS Treatment to Foreign Patients.

Do you think The Health Surcharge is fair? Should the Government raise the fee further as it may do in April 2020? Should the NHS ignore the law regarding “upfront payment towards the NHS Services?” Did you pay the Health Surcharge? Do you think the scheme is fair if the NHS ignores the Law?
